A family secret.

A family tradition for over 60 years, this delicious salad dressing was created by my grandmother in San Antonio, Texas. Lillian, affectionately known as “Grandmoo,” was a true Texan with impeccable taste. A dinner salad was customary at every evening meal. As a 6 year old, I began eating salads of lettuce, tomato, celery and carrots drizzled with this special dressing. As far back as I can remember people have tried to guess the ingredients and request the recipe only to be told, “It’s a family secret.” The recipe remains a secret to this day, but now you can try the delicious dressing I have enjoyed almost my entire life.

lillian’s signature salad

  • Lettuce of your choice (often times I like to serve it without lettuce)

  • Slice jicama, carrots, celery, tomato, avocado, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts

  • Optional: pomegranate seeds sprinkled, mango, dried cherries, sunflower seeds (or other desired nuts) and/or other seasonal fruit

  • Optional: feta cheese (or other desired cheeses)

  • Optional protein toppings: (often times I will add Lillian’s marinated sliced chicken breast, or Lillian’s marinated grilled shrimp, pork, fish, steak, or even tofu)

  • Shake LILLIAN’S well. Add LILLIAN’S to your desired taste

  • Toss and serve cold
